Course Introduction:
This course is designed to help the graduate students be familiar with history and evolution of techniques used in Neuroscience research, as well as the conventional and state-of-the-art techniques used by Neuroscientists. The students will learn about current popular research topics and gain the ability to gather useful information to address scientific questions. This course will also introduce some progresses in neuroscience. In addition, each student will be required to give a 10-min talk based on what they learn from the course. Question and discussion will be encouraged about these talks.

(1) Neural plasticity

(2) Animal Behavior, In vivo techniques and animal surgeries, Electrophysiology – extracellular; intracellular; patch-clamp recordings

(3) Microscopy – fluorescence microscopy; electron microscopy and data analysis

(4) Visualizing Nervous System Structure – sample preparation; qualitative and quantitative study

(5) Cell culture techniques – how to prepare and manipulate samples

(6) Visualizing nervous system functions
