Overview:
Doctor Hua earned his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics from Nanjing University of Science and Technology. Then he earned his MD-PhD’s degree in succession from Nanjing University and studied for two years in Goettingen University in Germany during the PhD period. In the postdoctoral period, he worked as the postdoctoral scholar and associate research scientist in the two world-class cancer institutions in the U.S., MD Anderson Cancer Center and Columbia University. In 2024, he joined School of Life Science and Technology in Southeast University and appointed as the principal investigator and doctoral supervisor, with awarded as the Distinguished Professor of Jiangsu Province.
Research:
Our lab has focused on the intersection of genetics and bioinformatics for a long time. We’re interested in the development of new technology by combination of both dry- and wet- experiments and answering key science questions in genetics by interdisciplinary methods. The main interests include: 1) The mechanism of epigenetic inheritance between parental and daughter cells, and its role in cell functions. 2) The mechanism of genetic mutations in oncogenesis. We used methods of system biology and multi-omics analysis to study the role of cancer related mutations on gene regulatory network, revealing the key role of mutations in non-coding sequence. 3) Development of new technology based on epigenetics and genetics for non-invasive diagnosis. We have published more than 20 articles in the world famous journals such as Nature, Molecular Cell, Science Advances、Nature communications、Cancer Discovery and so on. The research findings have been cited by members of the Danish Academy and the European Academy in journals of Nature, Cell and so on.
